Golfing in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness

Staff

golfOn July 16th, the 18 Hole Ladies League and their guests participated in their 8th annual Breast Cancer Event held at the Meaford Golf and Country Club.

Fifty-one ladies sporting their pink attire entered the 18 hole scramble, with the focus not being competition but a time to have fun and raise awareness of breast cancer. The total raised through a raffle and monetary donations was $3,302, which surpassed last year’s total and reflects this group’s dedication to supporting this worthwhile cause.

Prizes were awarded to the following: the winning team from Dundalk with a score of 73, which also tied with Bev Reed’s team. Third place went to Marge Allin’s team with 74, with special recognition to Marge for scoring a hole in one on Millennium #9.

Other prizes: Bev McDougall, closest to the rope on Millennium #8;

Norma Young, closest to the pin on Randal #9; Joan McDermid, closest to the pin on Millennium #9; Chris Kerr for longest drive on Millennium #5. Raffle prizes were won by Liz Smith, who won a Ping golf bag, Marg Tirpkoff won the gift basket, Bonnie Meesters won the putter, Donna Atkinson won a round of golf at Dundalk, and Dave Hobson won a golf bag.

Convenor Bev Reed welcomed all the ladies and thanked the small but mighty group of 18 Hole Ladies for not only donating all the prizes but for providing muffins and fruit for breakfast.

It was also noted that 100 percent of the monies donated goes directly to the Owen Sound Hospital Foundation to assist with the cost of a new CT scanner, which is often used in breast cancer screening.

A thank you was also extended to Mary Alderdice for waiving green fees for all guests, to the kitchen staff for a yummy lunch, Nancy Ellis of Simply Unique Flowers for donating the table arrangements,and to Leo Girard for facilitating the sale of raffle tickets to the senior men’s golf group.
