Assault & Trespassing Charges After Convenience Store Altercation

On Saturday, July 11, 2015, at approximately 8:18 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a variety store on Sykes St. S., Meaford, in the Municipality of Meaford, in response to an altercation which resulted in an assault and trespass complaint.

A male attended the variety store and entered into a verbal altercation with the store clerk.  As a result, the male was asked to leave.  During the verbal altercation, a second male approached the counter and assaulted the clerk.  The 45-year old male victim was not injured.

A 20 year old Meaford man has been charged with assault.  He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on Thursday, August 6, 2015.

A 37 year old Mississauga man was also issued a Provincial Offence Notice for failing to leave the premises when directed under the Trespass to Property Act (TPA).
