Ontario’s Sunshine list of public sector employees earning more than $100,000 per year in 2013 has been released today, and for the third consecutive year Meaford has three staffers on the list:
Rob Armstrong – Director of Planning & Building: $103,189.10
Stephen Vokes – Director of Operations: $103,189.10
Denyse Morrissey – CAO: $142,689
When compared to our neighbours, Meaford has relatively few employees earning six-figure salaries.
Owen Sound has 29 employees on the list this year, the top three salaries earned by City Manager Ruth Coursey at $154,148, Police Chief Bill Sornberger at $144,198, and Inspector Stephen MacKinnon at $133,961.
Town of the Blue Mountains has six employees on this year’s list topped by their CAO Troy Speck who earned $139,188 in 2013.
Prior to 2009 Meaford had not had any staff members on the annual Sunshine List released by the province. The first member of Meaford’s staff to earn a spot on the list was former CAO Frank Miele, who in 2009 earned $118,580.
While the Sunshine List informs Ontario residents of six-figure salaries in the public sector, $100,000 isn’t what it used to be.
According to the Bank of Canada $100,000 in 1996 is worth about $141,000 todays dollars. On the other hand, an employee making $71,000 in 1996 would have earned the equivalent of $100,000 in 2013.
