Three local organizations have offered financial support to the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society for the world stage premiere of the story of Beautiful Joe at Meaford Hall later this year.
A total of $47,000 is required for the BJHS to bring the play – adapted by Michael O’Brien – to the stage for the first time. The organization says that they are hoping to raise the final $5,000 required from sponsorships.
That amount has now been reduced to $2,500 after last week’s contributions from the Rotary Club of Meaford, Muxlow Pharmacy, and Meaford’s TD Bank branch.
The TD Bank contribution was for $500, to support youth involvement in the Beautiful Joe play project. Isabelle Ridd with her rescue dog ‘Buddy’ donated the cheque on behalf of TD Bank Group.
The Rotary donated $1,000 towards subsidizing half the cost of student tickets for the first 154 student tickets purchased. The Rotary was represented by President Rick Galbraith for the cheque presentation.
The Muxlow and Thornbury Pharmacy Donated $1,000 towards the play. Pharmacist Chris Davies presented the cheque on behalf of his business.
“We are very grateful to the three key local sponsors who have taken up the challenge so far to help us meet our final goal,” said BJHS representative Evelyn Dean.
