Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards

parliamentRecently, the Prime Minister Stephen Harper, announced the call for nominations for the Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards.

The call for nominations is now open and will remain open until May 9 th , 2014.

The Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards consist of 17 awards in total: 15 regional awards – three for each of the five regions across Canada (Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, the Prairies, British Columbia and the North), and two national awards.

Regional awards will be given in the following categories: Community Leader, Business Leader, and Social Innovator, while the national awards will be given in the categories of: Emerging Leader and Lifelong Achievement.

Recipients of the awards will be selected through the following process:

  1. The Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards Secretariat screens nominations to ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria.

  2. Regional Review: Volunteer representatives from across the country assess eligible nominations and develop a list of top-ranked nominations for the National Advisory Committee.

  3. National Advisory Committee: Composed of up to 15 volunteers, the National Advisory Committee assesses the top-ranked nominations and recommends award winners.

Recipients are recognized at an award ceremony and choose an eligible not-for-profit organization to receive a grant for $5,000 (regional award) or $10,000 (national award).
