Youth Summer Programs @ the OSNGUPL

The Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library invites kids and teens to participate in fun, free programs this summer.

After over a year of interrupted schooling, summer reading is more important than ever. To help encourage youth to make friends with books they can take part in the TD Summer Reading Club. Registration is now open for kids from birth to grade 12. Youth can set a summer reading goal and track their progress by completing weekly reading logs. Receive ballots for weekly prize draws by submitting the reading logs. Receive an optional Summer Reading starter kit with a booklet to track your reading, a button template, stickers, a bunting flag, and fortune teller. Register at bit.ly/TDSRC_registration.

As part of the TD Summer Reading Club, take a moment to visit the StoryWalkin Queen’s Park across the street from the Library. Enjoy outdoor time together and read The Thing Lou Couldn’t Do by Canadian author Ashley Spires. The StoryWalkdisplay will be available until Labour day, but is weather dependent.

In response to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, children can register for monthly take-home TD Summer Reading Club activity kits in July and August. The July kit includes a play-dough building challenge, a tropical fish Sew a Softie kit, a colouring sheet, a DIY comic, story starters, and a foldable 3D bookmobile. To register for a kit, please email ysinfo@owensound.library.on.ca or call 519-376-6623 ext. 4. Pickup for kits begin Tuesday July 6 and Tuesday August 3.

The youngest library members (ages 0-6) and their caregivers can check out weekly Story Tent programs on Zoom. Join the Library and EarlyON every Tuesday from July 6 to August 17 at 10:30 am for stories, songs and activities. To register, please visit bit.ly/storytent2021. Story Tent is a great way to introduce early literacy skills and get ready for school.

Our Kids and Caregivers Book Club is open for registration for children in grades 4-6. The summer title is From the Desk of Zoe Washington by Janae Marks. Kids and their caregivers read the book together or independently, and join others for a meeting to discuss what they’ve read. Spaces are limited to facilitate discussion. To register, please email cwood@owensound.library.on.ca.

Teens in grades 7+ can complete a Summer Reading Bingo challenge and be entered to win great prizes – try out books you may not normally pick off the shelves and find a new favourite author or genre! Download a card at https://bit.ly/Teen_Programs.

Teen Take & Make Kits will be available in July and August. This month, if you’re feeling crafty, register for a stained glass effect votive. Use tissue paper and a tea light to create a beautiful piece of décor. Suitable for kids in grade 6+. To reserve a kit, please email ndanyluk@owensound.library.on.ca

Students in grades 6+ can join the July and August Sketch Circle. Receive a drawing prompt and join the Zoom meeting to show off your work.
