Why I Quit Starlink

Editor,

I have been a Starlink customer from 04-23 to 03-25. The ISP is good but expensive to start up and monthly fees are high.

  1. Save $47.20/mth using a local ISP that has better performance with no data caps
  2. Keep the $ in Canada. Stop paying $158.20/mth to Musk in the USA
  3. Possibly prevent impacts of retaliatory tariffs that may hit any day
  4. A Canadian company operates under Canadian law and regulations. Trump/Musk don’t like laws or trade treaties that limit their financial goals so They ignore them.
  5. Trump has threatened Ukraine with stopping Starlink Internet as a form of economic pressure. He could do that to Canada on a whim. I don’t want to be vulnerable to that.
  6. The satellite density and competition between Musk, Bezos, China, Europe etc. is troubling. I’m not sure it is sustainable. These are attractive targets for space warfare. Russia, China, US are preparing for such an eventuality. No one wants to be affected by that.
  7. I went to Starlink before we knew that Musk was crazy. Maybe he was always crazy but hid it. Now i see him in a new light under Trump’s influence.

So… I cancelled Starlink.
