The Sweetwater Music Festival, a cultural jewel in Grey-Bruce. In its 23 years of bringing incredible talent to the region, the Festival always makes room for free community events and educational opportunities for the kids in the area who may not have as many chances to meet a professional musician.
Sweetwater just offered two free events for school kids in the area. Hundreds of young people were given the chance to hear Juno-award-winning pianist Philip Chiu and internationally acclaimed cellist Guillaume Artus perform. They listened and asked questions; learning in the best way possible; in real life with live performers. One of these fabulous sessions took place on Thursday, May 21 at Meaford Hall and the other in Owen Sound at Eastridge Community School.
On the Thursday evening, Philip Chiu gave an extraordinary solo piano performance at Grace United Church in Thornbury, and on Friday, May 22, Guillaume and Philip gave an astounding performance at historic Leith church to a sold out crowd.
For anyone wishing to check out the fall Sweetwater Music Festival, passes for the festival went on sale on May 26. The concert line up for the week running September 15-20 includes jazz and classical offerings. Individual tickets will be available a little bit later. The fall seems ages away but Sweetwater week is something to factor into your plans.
