The Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival executive has officially announced its plans to proceed with its annual scarecrow displays, parade, and festival.
If all goes to plan, the much-loved, whimsical faces of hundreds of scarecrows will once again appear throughout downtown Meaford as they have for the past 25 years, and more recently in the community of Bognor. The scarecrows invade beginning in early September. The date for the parade and festival is set for Friday, September 30.

It’s time to bring some joy back into our communities, said event chair Donna Earl.
“However, we can’t do it without volunteers,” she stressed. “Before we go any further with our plans, we need to know that there are individuals who will be available for a few hours in May and June to build scarecrows, to pick corn stalks in September, or help with the children’s activities during the festival. For anyone who can offer even more of their time, there are committee positions to fill and scarecrow displays to create. There are many tasks to be done, some requiring a few hours a week for a few weeks in the spring, some not until September, while other tasks will be ongoing. The executive would welcome whatever time, skills, and energy that volunteers have to offer.”
A list of the volunteers needed has been posted to their website at scarecrowinvasion.com. For more information and to volunteer, contact Donna Earl at 519-270-9106.
