Rural Roads and Residents Deserve Respect

Editor,

Further to Ken Risk’s letter (well said Ken) regarding a dangerous rural intersection, the proposed diversion of traffic on SD/RD 13E will compound another already dangerous situation.

If traffic is diverted to SD/RD 13E it will be an invitation to disaster as the intersection of SD/RD 13 and municipal road 7 is hidden making it necessary to pull out extremely far to see oncoming traffic especially the northbound traffic on the 7th Line making it very unsafe.

The 7th Line is a highly travelled road with a high population, with 38 entrances between SD/RD 13 and Grey Rd. 12. When a vehicle pops over the hill at this intersection heading north at an excessive rate of speed they cannot see or predict what is just over that knoll. Other vehicles, cyclists, walkers, farm equipment, school buses, horse-drawn vehicles as well as the unfortunate possibility of a farm animal that has escaped its fence, nobody stands a chance. This scenario also shows total disrespect for other users and residents on this road. I did contact the municipality regarding this dangerous situation two years ago suggesting maybe a reduced speed limit and/or an increased police presence to perhaps increase awareness of this dangerous situation. To date no action has been taken to address this issue.

With the proposed diversion to SD/RD 13E the increased traffic on the 7th Line it is only going to get worse. It is not a matter of if but when a major accident will occur with serious injuries and even fatalities. An ideal solution would be a reduced (and enforced) speed limit and given the hills and curves as well as the location of the Community Centre it should go from SD/RD 10 to Grey Rd 12.

It is not any one driver or type of vehicle that uses the road like the Indy 500 it is all inclusive, tractor trailers, construction vehicles, delivery vehicles, pick up trucks, SUVs, and passenger cars. We have a very dangerous situation which needs to be addressed.
