Reader Warns of Private Healthcare Issues

Editor,

I am writing to ask you to make your readers know the reality of private health care. According to Grey Bruce Health Coalition, private care costs three times as much, takes nurses and doctors away from public care, and will cost the lives of those who can not get to an open emergency department when rural hospitals close.

Here are some examples of how it works:

My cousin needed a hernia repair. He had the choice of the private clinic where he would stay a week, or Toronto General where he stayed three days.

Three men in Grimsby bought a CT scanner, but the board said the Grimsby hospital did not want it. They would use the private clinic down the street, and pay for each use.

In LTC the medications get changed often because it appears that OHIP pays more for the new prescriptions. Whether we pay by OHIP or credit card, the costs go up and TAXES have to rise to meet the extra costs.

Remind your readers to check behind the curtain before you believe the Wizard’s message.
