Reader Hopes Pumped Storage Proposal Never Gets off the Ground

Editor,

After sending many emails, actual letters, attending rallies, promoting SGB stance on the pumped storage project, I am hopeful that saner heads will prevail and this project will never get off the ground.

First of all let me say that while I don’t live in Meaford I appreciate the beauty of this town and all it has to offer. If you are a resident of Meaford area do you appreciate what is surrounding you everyday?

As a long time resident of the Georgian Bay area, I would like to point out that it is not just Meaford’s problem — it is for everyone that lives and works and uses the area for recreation, business and just plain living.

TCE has made this a Meaford project! It is not! Everyone living in and around Georgian Bay has a stake in the water quality, the escarpment, the environment—we all need to stop and think about what TCE is really proposing.

Destruction of the Niagara escarpment, the disruption of fish habitat, the degradation of the water supply, the species at risk which include trees, plants, animals, bats should make ALL OF US start to think about what is really going to happen if TCE is allowed to proceed with this project.

A lot of promises of big dollars, with the word “mitigation” being thrown around casually by TCE if and when something goes wrong.

Once the escarpment has a hole ripped into it, once fish habitat is destroyed, once water quality has been degraded—where will TCE be? Counting the cash that all the Ontario tax payers will have coughed up to support this boondoggle.

TCE is NOT THE SAVIOUR OF MEAFORD! But it could be the biggest headache the people living around Georgian Bay have ever had to deal with.

Thanks for listening.
