Opposition to Proposed Pumped Storage Facility Has Been Heard Loud & Clear

Editor,

The Save Georgian Bay Political Action Committee is pressuring the Meaford Council because they claim that they are not being heard. Sadly, that is not true. We have heard them very loud and clear since the very start of the project. They are being heard! They have representatives on council who advocate for them. But the majority of citizens and council are not buying their arguments.

Yes, Meaford is the focal point of the project but the risks, benefits and costs of the grid storage facility, using renewable energy, is shared by all of Ontario.

It is arrogant to think that our town council and the small population of Meaford can decide an issue that affects all of the citizens of Ontario. Our council has been deliberate and reasonable on this issue. They need to continue on that track and let the process play out. Let the benefits, costs and environmental impacts for all of Ontario decide the issue.

If it does come down to a referendum then all voters in Ontario should have their voices heard. It’s not only the voters in Meaford who will pay the costs and receive the benefits of the OPSP.
