Obituary: Parkin, William ‘Bruce’, W.W. II Veteran

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound.

Bruce was born in Mimico, Toronto, on November 7, 1924, a son of the late William and Emma (nee Stephenson) Parkin.

He and his wife Isobel raised six children in a small house on Murrie St. in Mimico. They then moved to a 100-acre farm outside of Meaford to begin an incredible life in the country. Bruce loved animals, especially beagles and cats. He enjoyed his vegetable gardens and talking with his neighbours about everything and anything.

Isobel (nee Reid) was an exceptional artist and was a strong advocate in keeping the Meaford Hospital open in the earlier years. Dogs and horses along with smaller animals were her passion. They both warmed to the wonderful people in Meaford and kept busy attending the many events Meaford offered over the years. They had so many wonderful neighbours and friends. They comfortably held many family events on the farm. Fantastic memories are locked away in our hearts. Bruce leaves behind his six children, Rhonda (Slade), Wayne (Bev), Gerri (Robin), Jim, Craig (Velda), and Don (Gayle). Bruce took great pride in his grandchildren Billie-Jo (Deek), Katie (Nick), Carlie, Jodie, and Justin, and two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Hailey. Bruce is predeceased by his brothers Jim, Albert, Lorne, and his sisters Audrey and Bernice.

Private family arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford. As your expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Meaford Hospital Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #32 (cheques only please) would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON, N4L 1B9.
