National AccessAbility Week – Get Out and Play!

Happy National AccessAbility Week! For Day 3, the Municipality of Meaford invites all residents to join us in celebrating Red Shirt Day for National AccessAbility Week. By participating in this initiative started by the Easter Seals of Canada, participants can showcase their commitment to educate and inform themselves on issues related to disability, and what can be done to remove physical and attitudinal barriers in our schools, workplaces, and community to make truly accessible and inclusive spaces for people of all abilities. For more information on this initiative, visit the Easter Seals web page. Show your pride and commitment to a more accessible world for all by donning red today, and join the Canada-wide social media campaign by sharing a photo of you and your group using the hashtag #RedShirtDay.

Why not take time today to get out and play! In the Municipality of Meaford, there seems to be no shortage of exciting accessibility initiatives that help enhance inclusion for all. Families for Autism has introduced the concept of Communications Boards in our local parks, and the Municipality of Meaford is proud to display this first board for our residents to enjoy. These boards allow non-verbal or neuro-diverse individuals and children to communicate and play their own way. Celebrate National AccessAbility Week by getting outside and visiting Memorial Park to see this brand new feature. Located closer to Sydenham? No problem! The Optimist Club of Sydenham & District will be introducing an accessible playground to residents in beautiful Hibou Conservation Area in the coming weeks. Residents will be able to enjoy the spinning chair, freedom swing, braille board, and lots of other accessible features at this exciting new playground.
