Municipal Governments Not Equipped to Deal With Corporate Powers

Editor,

It is an astounding revelation that our duly elected Meaford Council have just passed a vote on a bylaw suggested by and maybe even written by a non-elected corporation. Now our Council is bowing to future corporations who will control the future of Meaford. As TCE manipulated our Council to conditionally approve this antiquated, destructive and ill-advised Pumped Storage Project Corporations and Council can now hide behind this bylaw that will protect their ignorance in future decisions. To observe that councillor Bell was the only one to recognize the dangers and possible corruption possible by this bylaw is a testament to how poorly informed municipal governments can gain power and be manipulated by corporations. We must remember that corporation’s primary directives are to PROFIT and in order to gain profits, WIN at all costs!

Municipal governments are simply not equipped to deal with Corporate powers and this Pumped Storage fiasco is a perfect example of what can happen: Ill-advised decisions!
