MIFF Celebrates 15th Year With Drive-In Movie Festival

The Meaford Culture Foundation celebrates its 15th annual Meaford International Film Festival (MIFF) this year, with a surprising twist.

Moonlight MIFF will feature two nights of drive-in style entertainment, with past movie favourites from MIFF. The festival will be held in the upper parking lot of the Meaford & St. Vincent Community Center on Collingwood Street on September 4 and 5.

We’re so excited to bring MIFF to a live audience this year, safely and outdoors, and are pulling out some hidden gems from our repertoire for the line-up,” said Anna den Hengst, Artistic Director, MIFF. “With theatre closures, we took this opportunity to re-imagine the entire MIFF experience so that we can enjoy some of our favourite films in a whole new way together.”

On opening night, Saturday September 4th, movie-goers will be treated to special guest Lex Harding, the real-life pirate radio DJ who worked on a pirate radio ship broadcasting popular music from the North Sea to listeners in the Netherlands. He will provide a first hand account of life in pirate radio to accompany the evening’s screening.

On Sunday September 5th, Oscar and Pomme d’Or winner Searching for Sugar Man will close the festival. But these feature films are just one part of a full program.

Each evening will open with live music over the sunset by Meaford’s own electric violinist, Victoria Yeh, and close with John Muir at Trout Hollow, a short docudrama by local filmmaker Amy Phelan.

Tickets are $50 per car (including popcorn!), and will be on sale through Meaford Hall. Space is limited, so don’t miss out on Meaford’s premier drive-in event!

MIFF is proudly presented by the Meaford Culture Foundation, with all funds raised going to support its Community Outreach programs and year-round efforts to boost local arts & culture. This year’s event is also made possible by our many generous sponsors: Ainley & Associates, David & Sonja Glass, the Municipality of Meaford, Bruce Street Technologies Limited, Gardhouse Financial, Grandma Lambe’s, Johnson & Robertson Financial Services, Masse’s Your Independent Grocery and RBA Financial Group,” said organizers.
