Mayor Apologizes For Inappropriate Comment

Editor,

I want to extend the apology that I sent to every municipal staff member to all residents of the Municipality of Meaford and thank you for affording me the opportunity to have it published in the same edition in which you call me out for this lapse (3Rs…Rants, Raves & Rumours, September 21, 2023 print paper): I want to apologize to each and every one of you for the pain and disruption I have caused with my thoughtless and insensitive remarks at the close of Wednesday’s Heritage Advisory Committee meeting and in a social media post in response to criticism of those remarks.

The fact that they were well-intentioned does not excuse that what I said was hurtful and denigrating to all staff members, for which I am truly sorry.

I know that every one of our staff members is a professional and, as such, your eyes are never on the clock. You are committed to whatever it takes to get the job done. I saw ample proof of that during the recent declared emergency. That is what I should have said on Wednesday, instead of making such an inappropriate comment.

Please accept my apology; it is heartfelt. Thank you sincerely for the collaboration and support you have given me to this point. I will do my utmost to repair your confidence.

Very sincerely,

Ross Kentner, Mayor
