Local grade 11 GBCS student Kara Tichbourne has been running since she was knee-high to a grasshopper. Through her primary and middle school years she excelled both on the track and in cross country running. Needing a couple years off heading into high school, she has rebounded again to top form.
After a successful return last Fall in the cross country season, she qualified for the OFSSA Cross Country Championships, where she placed 25th in a deeply competitive field of about 200 runners.
When her long-time Meaford Coyote running coach officially retired last autumn, Kara made the decision to train out of Port Elgin with the Saugeen Track Club, where she could train with several grade 11 girls who are also at her performance level.
This winter, in the U18 Indoor Athletics Canada rankings, Tichbourne is ranked 8th in the 800m with a personal best time of 2:18.52. In the 1500m, she is ranked 17th in Canada, also with a personal best time of 4:50.33.
