Combining a Library & High School Has Been Successful Elsewhere

Dear Editor,

Has the high school been considered as a location for the public library to move to?
When I lived in Erin a new high school had just been built.  As part of the planning the community tried to think outside of the box and see how they could get everything the community needed and wanted in one build.

The high school and other community entities share facilities including:  the public library (no separate high school library); the community centre and skating rink, doctor, dentist and other health care provider offices, a theatre like our Meaford Hall.

Reader Questions Library Study

Editor,

I read the article on the consultant’s report on a new library for the Municipality of Meaford. My first comment is that the library Mr. Bantock is so keen to saddle the taxpayers of the municipality with is really only for the easterly portion of the municipality, ie. the former town of Meaford and St. Vincent township, because very few Sydenham residents use the Meaford library. Indeed the sign on the library says “Town of Meaford Public Library”, so I take it that Sydenham is not included, nor is St. Vincent, for that matter.

My one wish for the new year is that everyone, including consultants would “trust but verify” the information he/she receives. I refer your readers to Sections 4 and 5 of the Public Libraries Act in conjunction with By-law 01-2002.

GTO Thanks Community

Dear Editor,

The Board of Directors of Golden Town Outreach would like to thank The Meaford Independent for the promotional support you provided during our Christmas Food and Toy Drive. We also would like to thank all the residents, churches, businesses, service groups, clubs, sports teams, and schools for their generous donations. Over 170 local households received a Christmas hamper filled with food, clothes and toys. We appreciate the volunteers who assisted with this Christmas  hamper campaign and a special thank you to the Church of the Nazarene that continues to house and support our Meaford Food Bank.

Yours truly,

The Board of Directors of Golden Town Outreach
