RE-Use & Eco Fair Organizers Thank Community

Dear Editor,

I am writing to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the residents, family and friends of the Municipality of Meaford who came out in support of the RE-Use & ECO Fair on Saturday April 18th, 2015.

We couldn’t have done it without all of the amazing volunteers who gave up their Saturday to help with this great community event. Volunteers helped with everything from sorting & weighing incoming goods to greeting people as they arrived, to helping children get messy in the “Living Room” planting seeds to take home.

We also send out a sincere thank you to all who took their time to look over the wish list and find items in their homes to donate to the 14 local community groups that received them. If it wasn’t for our generous citizens this event wouldn’t be the great success that is.

After all the goods were packaged and weighed, a total of 1791.2 pounds of goods, in 100 boxes exchanged hands! An increase of 225 lbs from last year!!

Re-Use Fair Experience Priceless

On April 18 I spent a very pleasant three hours in the community centre packing boxes with “stuff”. All the “stuff” was destined for several local community organizations that had indicated they wanted the “stuff”. This was Meaford's second Re-Use Fair.

So all the “stuff” that people wanted was joined up with a bunch of “stuff” that others didn't want. Kind of an efficient free market capitalism without money! And even more dazzling was where the “stuff” ( all 1792.2 lbs of it ) did NOT go; to the landfill. Yea!

Head Scarecrow: We Are Indeed Lucky to Live in This Generous Community

Dear Meaford,

On March 28, at the Chamber Community Awards Gala, the Scarecrow Invasion & Family Festival was presented with the 2014 Tourism Award, sponsored by Third Line Homes. It was a real thrill to receive such a prestigious award, for the 2nd year in a row - a real compliment to the recognition of the “visitor impact” on  our municipality by the Invasion.

When I accepted the honour, I did so recognizing the tremendous effort by our 300 community volunteers, especially the coordinating effort by our 10 person Executive - the group that keeps all the balls in the air for 11 months of the year. There is a no more dedicated bunch than our Executive team, and one that I’m incredibly proud to be associated with!  I swear this group could run the world!!
