Cemetery Doesn't Need Swans

Dear Editor,

Yet again I am reading about more misfortune for the Meaford Cemetery swans.

When I moved to Meaford four years ago I remember reading that one died.

Another time I read a letter from a resident telling of the atrocious inadequate care the swans were receiving throughout the winter. I think these swans were sent to sanctuary.

Now the two swans have gone missing.

Friends of GBSS Library Offer Thanks

Editor,

The Friends of the GBSS Library would like to thank the students and staff of Georgian Bay Secondary School, The Meaford Library, The Net Shed and the Beaver Valley Outreach for their kind donations to our program.

Every book received helps to improve our library and the minds of our students! As Oscar Wilde said, "It is what you read when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it." We hope to continue diversifying our library as the school year continues. Any Gently used book donations are always appreciated. Thank you!

Sincerely, Leah C, Leah F, Sydney, Eric and Sarah

Outgoing Mayor Thanks Community

To all the residents of the Municipality of Meaford,

It has been an honour to serve on the municipal council for the last 11 years – 7 as mayor.  I want to thank you for your support over these years.  It has not always been easy but a great deal has been accomplished and I am very pleased to be stepping down at this time.

You all know how important Meaford is to me.  I have been delighted to give back to the community that did so much for me as I was growing up here.

I want to thank the other members of council and the staff for their support over this time.  No one person can accomplish anything on his or her own in our municipal government.  I have received tremendous support and, with that, a great number of things have been done.

I ask you to support the incoming council in the same way you have supported me.  Much still needs to be done.  You have the council and staff in place to do it.

I look forward to being a “member of the Public”!

Mayor Francis Richardson, Meaford
