Keeping the Arts Alive in Meaford

Meaford’s entertainment culture boasts a vibrant community of talented local musicians where the downtown is usually bustling throughout the year with live music and theatre. COVID-19 put an abrupt halt to the entire live entertainment industry.

The arts community was not to be deterred for long, and soon artists and arts organizations stepped up to fill the community’s need for connection, inspiration, and entertainment. Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre launched ‘Live it Live’, a live-stream music concert series featuring local musicians. As well, Chris Scerri, a well-known Meaford musician, produced his own live-stream ‘From Home Series’, showcasing many professional musicians.

The Meaford Culture Foundation agreed to cover the performance fees for the musicians, and BruceGreySimcoe provided funds for a digital advertising campaign. The Foundation’s Community Outreach program endeavours to bring many community stakeholders together to implement its giving mandate, and reached out to Lanna Bycraft, Manager of TD Bank Meaford. TD Bank generously agreed to donate $5,000 towards this important initiative.

With all the pieces in place, music came alive again and brought the community together in its time of need, helping over 50 musicians.
