The Owen Sound and District Junior Optimists have partnered with Branch 6 of the Royal Canadian Legion to honour local seniors and people serving in our military. Everyone is invited to write a positive message to a member of the Canadian military in gratitude for their service, or to a local resident in long-term care. Postcards created by Junior Optimists are now available at the Owen Sound Legion for free.
The display at the Owen Sound Legion includes the free postcards and the address for mailing to members of our military in active duty. To send a postcard to a local senior, simply address the postcard ‘OS Long Term Care’ and leave the completed postcards in the ‘Optimist Mailbox’. The Owen Sound and District Junior Optimists will ensure all postcards are delivered, including providing postage where needed.
This project is to mark Optimist Day on February 1, when the benefits of optimism are highlighted, and people encouraged to spread optimism through kindness.
In addition, the Owen Sound Junior Optimists are dedicating their Optimist Day Kindness Campaign this year to Sharif Rahman. They will be posting acts of kindness on social media using #Kindness4Sharif and invite others to do the same.
Parker Davis, Junior Optimist president, summed up this initiative with, “Sharif is greatly missed in our community, but his legacy of kindness continues.”
