Dear Editor,
I have come to realize that there is a point we need to remember during the next election.
I checked into the cursive writing debate and found out the poor kids are getting betrayed. The school I could never afford not only teaches cursive writing, but STARTS with it. It develops brain cells no other system does. It also trains the brain to go left to right better. If you print, the brain stops between letters — only briefly but still stops. If you have ADD or Autism your brain does not always go at the same speed as the hand so we need a system to get the ideas down before they fly away.
Printing or computers do not do that. Yet, the Bluewater Board of Education has stopped teaching cursive in public education. Ergo, the rich will think better, be able to get ideas down at the same time as thinking and if the power goes out they will communicate better. Both my sons work in a place where they need to take notes without computers. They need cursive.
The same rich vs. poor applies in health care. While we are not able to see doctors, my brother went in for his annual check-up and even got ultrasounds of his core to be sure there is no problems. My son got hurt three months ago but is still waiting for x-rays. He does not live in luxury.
Maybe it is time to call it like it is – a war of rich vs. poor. It is time to think before you vote. Ask the opinions of the school board members you are voting for and policy for health care of the politicians.
Sincerely,
Roberta Docherty, Meaford
