The Grey County Historical Society, after not hosting its annual dinner since 2019, is pleased to announce they will gather on Thursday, May 18 at the Euphrasia Community Centre in Rocklyn. It is the Society’s 53rd Annual Dinner. The Rocklyn Agricultural Society will cater the chicken/beef buffet dinner at 5:30 p.m.
The evening will also be an opportunity to present, at last, the Society’s Certificates of Recognition for 2020 to 2023. The certificate honours and recognizes a work or works of heritage by an individual, organization, institution, or business that has made a significant contribution to the promotion or preservation of the history of Grey County.
The following are being recognized: 2020—author Jean Hutchinson and author Robert A. Cotton, and 2021—aunt and nephew, Edith Ruth Kitchen and J. Douglas Hethrington and the Sheffield Park Black History Museum. For 2022, the Greenwood Cemetery Owen Sound Potter’s Field Monument Steering Committee. This year, the Society recognizes the Craigleith Depot for the REEL History Project.
Murray Calder, the guest speaker, will share ‘A Potpourri of Grey County Stories’. He is a former Member of Parliament, a farmer, and recently a host on CFOS Open Line.
