Fire Risk Increased to Extreme in Meaford

The fire risk level in the Municipality of Meaford has increased from high to extreme as of Wednesday, August 13.

Recent dry conditions and continued lack of rainfall have created an environment where fires can start easily and spread quickly. The Municipality of Meaford and the Meaford Fire Department are urging all residents to take extra care.

What Extreme Risk Means:

  • All open-air burning is prohibited except for campfires used solely for cooking purposes.
  • Fire pits and outdoor fireplaces may be used only for cooking.
  • All other burning (bonfires, brush fires, controlled fires, demolition fires, etc.) is not permitted at this time.

If you are cooking over a campfire:

  • Never leave the fire unattended.
  • Keep water, tools, or another means of extinguishment close by.
  • Ensure the fire is completely out before leaving the area.

Fire risk levels can change daily depending on weather conditions. Residents are asked to check the current fire risk level before starting any permitted fire at meaford.burnpermits.com
