Award-winning electric violinist Victoria Yeh is set to captivate audiences with two exciting events at the Simcoe Street Theatre in Collingwood. Yeh will present an ‘Up Close & Personal’ evening concert featuring her signature solo looping on electric violin on Saturday, March 21, preceded by an afternoon Community Masterclass on Improvisation for musicians of all levels, presented by Collingwood’s ‘Live & Original’ series.
The ‘Up Close & Personal’ concert promises an intimate evening with Yeh, showcasing brand new music and compelling storytelling. From learning to play the violin before she could read and write, to rebuilding her life after devastating loss, Yeh’s life is a testament to resilience and the power of music. The concert will highlight Yeh’s unique talent for creating layered soundscapes using live looping techniques on her electric violin.
“I’m thrilled to return to Georgian Bay and share my music and story with this vibrant community,” said Yeh. “The Simcoe Street Theatre provides the perfect setting for an intimate connection between me, my music, and my audience – it’s one of my favourite places to play.”
Earlier the same afternoon, Yeh will lead a Community Masterclass on improvisation, welcoming both professional and amateur musicians. Through active participation and opportunities to play along, the masterclass is designed to unlock creative potential and provide fresh motivation for musicians seeking new ways to understand and relate to music.
“There is so much innate talent in this community – from classically trained string players to singer/songwriters,” Yeh explained. “If you’re feeling creatively stuck, or are looking for fresh motivation in your practise room, this masterclass is for you.”
Participants will explore harmony, rhythm, and improvisation techniques in a friendly and non-judgmental environment.
