On Saturday, September 27, the Georgian Bay Coyotes hosted their annual cross-country race at the track on Aiken Street in Meaford. More than 280 athletes registered for the event, most of them elementary-aged children between the ages of 3 and 13. An open age category also saw participation from high school athletes and some brave, athletic adults.
The Coyotes team, along with several high school students from GBCS, worked hard throughout the day to warm up the competitors and serve as ‘rabbits’ and ‘turtles’ for each race—keeping runners on course and motivated. Their energy and enthusiasm were remarkable and contributed to a special and memorable experience for all participants.
This year, the race was renamed the Georgian Bay Coyotes Annual Cross-Country Race in Memory of Adam Kulakowsky. Adam was a beloved teacher, coach, and friend to many in the community. One of his greatest passions was fostering a love of sport among local youth—a mission the Coyotes are committed to continuing.
The Kulakowsky family attended the event. In a particularly touching moment, Adam’s wife, Alli Kulakowsky, took part in the open category race. Supported by friends and her daughters, Alli ran with determination and heart, crossing the finish line hand-in-hand with her youngest daughter. She earned not only a second-place medal but also made some cherished memories.
Throughout the day, there were many proud moments as athletes pushed themselves to their limits, striving to do their best. Congratulations go out to all participants for their effort and spirit.
Medals were awarded to the top three finishers in each race. Mayor Ross Kentner attended several of the races and helped present medals to the winners.
The Coyotes extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who made donations during race registration, as well as to the generous support of our local businesses and clubs. Special thanks go to: Meaford Rotary, Eagles Lawn Care, Grandma Lambe’s, Godard’s Independent Grocer, A1 Toilets, Clarksburg Legion, Thornbury Pharmasave, Scheifele, Erskine & Renken, and Dr. Sauriol. Your support keeps this event alive and helps us provide affordable, accessible athletics training for the youth of our community.
