As the school year at Georgian Bay Community School wrapped up, there were many celebrations to be had.
One of these celebrations was to acknowledge the achievements of the participants in this year’s Marafun event. The Marafun was an eight-week program that encouraged students to spend their morning recess three times a week, running and walking laps of the track. The ultimate goal was to have students try to complete a full marathon, which is 42km, a total of 106 laps of the 400m track. There was also a second target set, the half marathon, which is 21km, a total of 53 laps of the track.
Incredibly, there were over 300 kids who participated in the Marafun program. There were over 25 students who completed the full Marafun and over 75 kids who completed the half-Marafun.
The students received prizes which were generously donated by local businesses and some parents as well. Teachers and students would like to sincerely thank the following businesses for making this program such a success: Knight’s Home Building Centre, Tim Horton’s, Dairy Queen, Rice’s Home Hardware, Jake’s Sandwich, and Subway. The prizes were a big motivator to many, and it was a pleasure to get to reward these kids for their hard work.
