Public health units across the region are concerned about the growing number of households struggling to afford basic needs, including food. In 2024, one in four households in the Southwestern Ontario region experienced household food insecurity, meaning they did not have reliable access to enough food due to financial challenges (Public Health Ontario, 2025). Under a perfect summer sky on Saturday, July 11, the Meaford waterfront filled with close to 700 runners and walkers – plus hundreds of supporters and volunteers – as the Meaford Harbour 5K Run/Walk celebrated its 30th anniversary and delivered its biggest fundraising result in the event's history, raising $125,000 for the Emergency Department revitalization campaign at Brightshores Meaford Hospital.
