Busy Weekend For Coyotes Runners

On Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13, Georgian Bay Coyotes runners Isabel Spence and Emmett Leary travelled to the Toronto Track and Field Centre as part of the District C Legion team and competed in the 2024 Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command Track and Field Championships. In June, these athletes competed in the Zone C qualifier meet in Kincardine and from there, they were selected to participate in the Championship meet.

Both Coyotes raced the 1200m run on Friday night and the 2000m on Saturday morning, and achieved personal best times in all their races. Isabel managed to knock two seconds off her 1200m time and took twelfth in the province. She knocked a whopping seven seconds off her previous best 2000m time and placed eleventh. Emmett managed to race the 1200m six seconds faster than his previous best, finishing in eighth position. He kicked hard to finish his 2000m race, lowering his personal best by four seconds and moving from fifth to third position in the last two hundred meters, clinching the third-place medal.

Also on Saturday, July 13, a large group of over thirty-five Coyote kids and parents took part in the Meaford Harbour run, participating in both the 1km kids run and the 5km road race. In the 1km kids race, Oleg Belov raced very well, sprinting to the finish and chasing hard for the lead position. He claimed second place, narrowly missing first, but happy to be greeted by popsicles and ice cream at the finish line. Special thanks to Brokerlink and Pom Pom for giving the kids a very fun finish.
