Busy August For Lawn Bowling Club

The Meaford Lawn Bowling Club hosted two tournaments recently with local members finishing in the top three in outstanding fields of competitors.

The first was August 6, sponsored by Carquest. It was a singles tournament, one of just a few in the province. Local lawn bowler Brad Tichbourne placed second. In first place was Murray Benniweise from Seaforth, Ontario.

The second tournament, held August 19, was sponsored by the local office of RBA Financial. The club hosts this pairs tournament annually and uses a modified format called 4,3,2,1. This is a popular format and brings back returning players each year. Sandy and Eric Weatherall from Chesley, who in two recent years have placed 4th then 3rd, took top spot with three wins. Second place was Jim and Bob from Saugeen Shores with two wins and 206 points, and in third, Rick Baird and Jeff Pryma from Meaford with two wins and 195 points.

There are more tournaments coming soon and the club has another team heading to provincials. There were no challengers at the district level so Sue Singleton and Maureen Knight will be representing Meaford and District 8 at the provincial playdowns.
