Apple Harvest Craft Show Supports Curling Club With Donation

The Meaford Curling Club had a very large turnout of members for their Annual General Meeting held May 8 at the club. Members were anxious to hear news about replacing the ice-making plant that was original to the building when it was built in 1988 and which died at the beginning of last season. Plans for its replacement were provided by the Board and a fund-raising committee was introduced.

Representatives Bill and Jenn Pearson of the Apple Harvest Craft Show presented Maryann Almas and Bob Foster of the fund-raising committee with a cheque for $5,000 to kick off the campaign. Proceeds from this annual event are donated back to the community with well over $1 million now supporting many community programs and events. Long-serving and recently retired Craft Show volunteers Dennis and Kay Freeborn were in the audience and recognized for their service.

The committee thanked the Craft Show for this contribution and for their past and ongoing support of worthwhile causes in the community.

The Meaford Curling Club has big plans for next year as it prepares to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its creation. The Club provides non-competitive and competitive curling to new or experienced curlers of all ages, every day of the week throughout the curling season. New members are warmly welcomed, experience is not required and training clinics are provided.
