Police Charge Meaford Man With Murder

Ontario Provincial Police have arrested and charged a 34 year old Meaford man, Matthew McQuarrie, with first degree murder, after recovering the remains of 25 year old Emerson Sprung, who was reported missing on May 3, after not returning home.

On May 3, at 4:02 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a missing person. The 25-year-old male was last seen on May 2, at 9:00 p.m. leaving the family residence on Trowbridge Street West in Meaford on his BMX bicycle.

Police say that human remains, located on May 6, have been identified as that of the missing male, Emerson Sprung, of Meaford. The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) has now determined the death to be the result of homicide.

No other details have been provided by the OPP at this time.

The accused has been remanded in custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 14, 2020.
