Statement from Mayor Barb Clumpus Regarding COVID-19 Impact on ServicesThe Municipality of Meaford’s top priority is the health and safety of our community and our staff. In order to prevent the spread of the COVID 19 virus, public health experts and the Province have emphasized the importance of practising social distancing.

We have taken the proactive measure of closing all non-essential municipal services and programs to help slow virus transmission and protect the vulnerable members of our community.

Essential services such as water and wastewater services, garbage and recycling pickup, fire services, and road services will continue to operate as usual. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we focus on supporting these critical areas, and would like to give special thanks to the staff who will be working hard to continue these operations.

This is an exceptional situation, and we have exceptional people in our community who are doing everything they can to help, including our staff and community groups. I know that our community will continue to take care of each other – keeping the required social distancing, people will check in on vulnerable friends and neighbours, and those who have extra will share with those in need. I have already seen local businesses and community groups stepping up to help, and I know these connections will continue to build to make sure that no one is left behind.

The Municipal Emergency Control Group, which includes senior staff and myself, is continuing to operate and communicate with Council, Public Health, Grey County, and upper levels of government as this situation progresses. Let me assure you that your Council is engaged and doing everything we can to keep you informed, and we’ll be ready to reconvene when possible.

We’ll be monitoring the situation closely and providing regular updates to our community, and we urge everyone to stay informed and follow the best practices recommended by health agencies. We will continue to communicate openly and provide regular updates over the coming weeks. Please check our website, Meaford.ca, and social media pages for up-to-date information, and subscribe to our news feed to receive updates directly to your inbox.

Our community is strong, inclusive, and resilient. We know that in this time of crisis, we will all work together to overcome this challenge, and will emerge as a more connected and caring community.
