The 100 Women Who Care South Georgian Bay group met on September 26, when they made a donation to the charity chosen at the previous meeting and to choose the next charity to receive a donation.
At the September 26 meeting, they heard from three charities and ultimately chose the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for their next donation. They also snapped a photo with the big cheque and their $17,000 donation to Events for Life, the charity chosen at the last meeting.
The group works like this: Four times a year they meet to listen to a presentation by three charities nominated by the membership. At the end of the meeting, a charity is chosen. Each woman donates $100 and the group issues a cheque for the total amount. In their first year – the group formed in September 2017 – the women donated more than $60,000 shared between four charities.
There are now 190 members in the group. Each promises to contribute $100 at each of the four annual meetings.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul operates a food bank in Collingwood and offers emergency social assistance to those in need in the community.
