Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is asking the public to know when to call 9-1-1.
9-1-1 is to be used only when the safety of people or property is at risk and require immediate assistance as a result of a fire, a crime in progress, or a medical emergency. In an emergency, every second counts.
If you place an unintentional 9-1-1 call, stay on the line to let the emergency operator know it was a pocket dial/unintentional call. Every 9-1-1 call is taken seriously. When a 9-1-1 caller doesn’t respond, that could be a sign of trouble – a possibility an emergency responder can’t ignore.
For all non-emergency calls for service, call the OPP toll-free number 1-888-310-1122 which is available 24/7.
Anyone who misuses or abuses 9-1-1 is subject to charges of Public Mischief under the Criminal Code.
Grey County OPP encourage parents and caregivers to talk to their children and educate them on the proper use of 9-1-1.
