Knights Fall 5-4 in Heart Breaking Shootout

The Knights of Meaford weren’t able to put away the Ville Marie Pirates in an entertaining game at the Meaford Arena on November 2.

The Knights couldn’t hold four separate one-goal leads in the game before finally succumbing 5-4 in a shootout. The Pirates scored on both of their shots, while the Knights couldn’t get a goal in the shootout. The Knights earned a single point in the standings in the shootout loss.

The Knights had trouble staying out of the penalty box all night, a point Head Coach Brad Tichbourne emphasized after the final buzzer.

It breaks down to being undisciplined. At five-on-five we are one of the best teams in the league,” said Tichbourne. “I told the boys after the game, if they choose to play disciplined, they can be one of the top teams.”

Jeff Hyndman, Skylar Robertson, Colton Langowski and Eric Lowry scored for the Knights in the game. Assists went to Connor Long, Mitchell Bolduc (2), Eric Brynestad, Niko Walsh, Callum Queenan, Justin Pereira and Langowski.

Although the game was filled with end-to-end action that kept the large crowd on the edge of their seats, Tichbourne was disappointed with the final result.

That’s not what we needed. We needed two points,” he said. “I think the guys lost some energy and focus when we couldn’t roll four lines because of penalty trouble.”

The loss was the third in a row for the Knights and gives the team a record of nine wins, four losses and two overtime losses for a total of 20 points.

The Knights return to action with a road game on Saturday, November 5 against the Bradford Rattlers. The team’s next home game is Thursday, November 9 against the Temiscaming Titans.
