Local Pet Food Store Teams up With Lions Club & BJHS For Walk For Dog Guides

Staff

walkfordogguides270For more than 30 years, the Pet Valu Walk For Dog Guides has been an important fundraiser in support of Lions Foundation of Canada Guide Dogs.

This event will be taking place in more than 240 communities across Canada on Sunday, May 28.

Pet Valu in Meaford, along with the Meaford Lions Club and the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society, will be working together to bring this event to our community for the first time. The walk raises monies to provide Dog Guides to Canadians with physical and medical disabilities with no cost to the recipient. The cost for one dog is approximately $20,000. The dogs are trained through six programs which meet a variety of needs. The Dog Guides increase independence, mobility, and safety issues of their handlers.

The event begins in the parking lot at Pet Valu with registration beginning at 12:30 p.m. and the walk following at 1 p.m. The walk should last about 30-45 minutes and we plan on walking on the Georgian Trail. Once the walk is finished there will be a BBQ for the walkers and treats for the dogs.
