Reader Offers Thoughts on MP’s Annual Report

Letter to the Editor

The Editor,

Recently our MP Larry Miller mailed me his annual report.

I appreciate hearing from my elected representatives and look forward to seeing how our democracy works at the constituent level.

Reading Mr. Miller’s report however, is short on information and long on photo-ops. Now there is nothing wrong with photo-ops to a point, but I think I could be excused If I had the impression that this report was from a local anniversary/birthday party convener.

Certainly, he reports on his efforts to have firearms/gun registration reflect more reality, but what about problems faced by his constituents on a daily basis?

What are his thoughts on the necessity of Food Banks in one of the wealthiest countries in the world?

What about the proliferation of second hand clothing, furniture, and appliance stores throughout the communities in his riding?

Empty store fronts and factories throughout his riding.

The closing of the only downtown Meaford grocery store?

The high cost of prescription drugs?

Does he support a National Drug Plan, as proposed before the last election?

Seniors who cannot afford dental care, with resulting discomfort and health problems causing increased cost to our Health Care System?

I could go on, but I am sure if he asked his constituents, and not only the ones who voted for him, what THEIR problems and concerns are, he would get a multitude of ideas he could respond to in his next REPORT and take back to his caucus for consideration.

Sincerely,

Karl Braeker, Meaford
