For the 161st straight year Meaford’s agricultural heritage will be showcased during the annual Meaford & St. Vincent Fall Fair,

which will be held this year on Saturday, September 3 at the Fairgrounds and the Meaford Curling Club on Collingwood Street.

Whether you are looking to see what a prize-winning green pepper looks like, or if you are interested in an up close and personal view of some of the finest livestock that our area has to offer, the Fall Fair will be the place to be on September 3.

The Fall Fair is a celebration of not just our agricultural heritage, but our agricultural present, and it provides a small snapshot of our agricultural future. From livestock to produce, the Fall Fair captures the agricultural activity in our area.

In addition to the traditional agricultural displays, organizers of this year’s Fall Fair told The Independent that they’ve got much more in store.

Features this year will include Jackie Ralph and her puppets, live music by local artists, the amateur dog show, gold fish races, Mini, Heavy & Saddle Horse shows, 4H calf club, Beef and Dairy shows, Poultry & Rabbit show and our sheep show,” organizers told The Independent.

This year’s fair will also feature the Elephant Thoughts “Zoo Guts” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., plus many more children’s events that are currently in the planning stages.

Fair organizers also said that those visiting the fair should bring their appetites.

Food aplenty will be available, including a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m., the M.A.A.A. all day food booth, Erin Cresswell-Top Dog with delicious treats including french fries and candy floss. The Agricultural Society will have their delicious booth featuring their homemade pies and other yummy foods,” said organizers.

Those wanting to participate in the fair with a display can contact the organizers. There are many categories available to enter including: flowers, vegetable and fruit, grain, home-craft, culinary, photography, amateur art, antiques and the elementary school section.

The placing of exhibits for judging will take place Friday, September 2 from 9 a.m.-noon. The Exhibit Hall will be open for viewing that Friday evening from 7 – 9 p.m.

This year’s fair officially opens on Wednesday, August 31with the Pork Chop BBQ from 5:30-6:30 p.m. then the Junior Ambassador competition at 7 p.m.
