Shauna Noreen Vokes (née Mackie) passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Shauna was born to Leslie and Patricia Mackie on March 1, 1954, in Toronto, Ontario. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Stephen Vokes, her son Adam (Sarah) and daughter Katie (Greg), and has now been reunited with her beloved son Jeffrey. She was an adored and devoted grandmother, “Shaushie”, to Izzy, Gavin, and Aiden. She is also survived by her sister, Judie Beaven (John, deceased), and brother, Bob Mackie (Sue), as well as her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Her heart and motherly love extended even further to countless friends and neighbours, and just about anyone who found themselves in need of a hug or a little extra tender loving care.
Shauna obtained her R.N. from Seneca College in 1976. She had a 43-year nursing career, working at Scarborough Centenary, Sunnybrook, and Meaford hospitals. She was a beloved caregiver, colleague, and friend.
Her happy place was the cottage on Goat Island in Georgian Bay, where she spent summers surrounded by friends and family. Shauna fought hard to spend one last summer at the place she loved, and she did.
Shauna leaves behind an extraordinary number of people whose lives are better because she was part of them. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, unconditional love, handmade gifts, personal notes and letters, sense of humour, and instinct to jump in whenever someone needed her.
The best way to honour Shauna is to continue what she did so naturally: be generous, take care of one another, make people feel loved, and enjoy the precious moments while you’re living them.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 1 –4 p.m. at the Toronto Ski Club in The Blue Mountains, Ontario. A brief ceremony will commence at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shauna’s memory may be made to Meaford Hospital in recognition of both the many years she spent caring for her community there and the exceptional care she received in return.
