The Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC) will be hosting a public ‘free sale’ of the remaining items from the former Talisman Mountain Resort onsite on Friday, September 11 from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. Items from the former Talisman Mountain Resort hotel, including chairs, desks, dressers, tables, landscaping perennials and more, will be available at no charge.
“When we purchased the former Talisman Mountain Resort lands, we received more than the 134 acres that we plan to restore; we inherited a time capsule of furniture and appliances that we knew could still have use in the community,” said Michael McDonald, Chief Executive Officer of the Bruce Trail Conservancy. “As we work towards rewilding this property, we want to do as much as possible to make sure that the materials left behind do not go to waste and instead benefit the local community, commemorating special memories of Talisman many people cherish.”
Prior to the free sale, the BTC worked with the Bluewater Education Foundation, Redwood Park Communities, neighbouring ski hills, and local charities to re-home hundreds of pieces of furniture in support of their work in the community.
“The Bluewater Education Foundation (BEF) is very grateful to the Bruce Trail Conservancy for allowing us to acquire many items from the previous Talisman Resort,” said Meagan Hayward, Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives at Bluewater Education Foundation. “These items will be used towards future programming and improving our facilities at the outdoor education centre. Being able to work together to repurpose these items has been an important initiative for BEF as we improve and grow, all while being eco conscious and valuing local history.”
Visitors attending the ‘free sale’ should enter from Talisman Mountain Drive where they will be directed to designated parking areas. All items at the Talisman free sale will be available in as-is condition free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors will be responsible for removing their selected items from the property during the sale window on September 11 from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. Those wishing to take select remnant landscaping perennials should bring their own shovel and pots.
BTC staff will be onsite to accept donations in support of the future restoration and stewardship of Talisman Forest Nature Reserve, though donations are not required to enter the sale or take designated items from the property. Cash and electronic donations will be received with great appreciation.
