NFL FLAG Football Games Kick Off in Meaford

Mixed Movements’ co-ed recreational NFL FLAG Football League was back on the field this past weekend at Georgian Bay Community School, as local athletes played their first games of the season.

The second weekend of the program was a great start to game play, with athletes learning the fundamentals of flag football in a positive, team-focused environment. Players worked on passing, catching, route running, defence, flag pulling, and game awareness while gaining confidence in a non-contact version of the sport.

This weekend featured two exciting match ups, with the New England Patriots defeating the Buffalo Bills 18-2, and the Detroit Lions defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 19-6.

With local athletes taking the field in Meaford, it is also an exciting time for flag football across Canada. Mixed Movements would like to congratulate Canada’s Senior Women’s and Senior Men’s National Flag Football Teams on officially securing their spots at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games,” said organizers.

Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team qualified with a 20-6 win over Mexico at the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships in Düsseldorf, Germany. Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team followed by earning its Olympic qualification with a 34-26 win over Mexico.

Flag football will make its Olympic debut at LA28, marking a historic milestone for the sport and creating an exciting pathway for young athletes across Canada. For the athletes playing in Meaford, it is a special time to be learning the game as flag football continues to grow locally, nationally, and internationally.
