Reader Concerned That Younger Generations Are Not Politically Engaged

Dear Editor,

I just came back from the protest to defend Ontario, and I noticed something I find frightening. The participants were knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and there was a lot of information shared, but there were too few youth.

My nieces say, “That is politics. We don’t do politics.” Please make them understand, “If you don’t do politics, politics will DO you.” I can’t tell if they don’t understand that they are losing their education, health care, water, and democracy, or if they just don’t know what to do. Somewhere in your readership, we must have a leader to take charge and inform them that their kids will pay for hospital visits either in higher taxes or cash. They will have less education if they don’t pay.

We take too much for granted. The Boomer generation built a wonderful system and now it is being stolen. The youth have to get involved and soon. It is them who will suffer if this continues.

Thank you,

Roberta Docherty, Meaford
