Editor,
I read this week’s TMI Letters to the Editor ‘Thoughts on Industrial/Commercial Land Acquired by Municipality’ from Sandra Hibovski and just have to provide a few comments.
I believe there may be a misconception of what a modern day Industrial park is, and the types of businesses attracted to such an area.
Gone (are) the days of many ‘Smoke Stack’ industries that relied on heavy transport and the shipping Georgian Bay once offered.
The Industrial parks of today attract a much different clientele which could include:
Multi Unit Business parks housing Storage Facilities, Warehousing, R&D, Engineering firms, Corporate Administration Offices and assembly halls.
This is exactly the type of real estate and facility Meaford and Southern Georgian Bay requires to grow and prosper. Today’s Industrial Park might be better described as a “Multi Unit Business and Commercial Centre.”
Where employment can be located and still provide easy access and amenities for the businesses, customers and their employees.
If we look at neighbouring communities, Owen Sound is experiencing growth with many light businesses and assembly companies, and a recent development is that Amazon is considering a warehouse facility there.
Collingwood has many renovation firms, engineering and marketing firms, a Small Business Enterprise Centre, Micro Breweries, etc.
I would like to express my thoughts that this is exactly the type of facility and centre Meaford needs to embrace. What better place than where the youth of our community can visually see positive growth and activity, and hopefully, even participate in future Co-op work programs or employment.
Congratulations to the Municipality for having the foresight to acquire this property.
Reed Barrett, Meaford
