The Sandy Pedlar Bursary Fund has been established to honour the life and legacy of longtime music educator Sandy Pedlar, whose passion for teaching and community music-making inspired generations of young musicians across Grey-Bruce.
Each year, the fund will provide financial support to local music programs, helping ensure that students continue to experience the joy and connection that music brings.
Raised in a musical family near Owen Sound, Sandy began her journey with the violin through the Bluewater School Board’s strings program—the same program she would later lead. During her decades of teaching at Meaford Community School, every student passed through her classroom learning not only notes and posture, but the importance of teamwork, laughter, and sincere effort. Her orchestras performed for nursing homes, churches, and community events, embodying her belief that “music is meant to be shared”.
To celebrate Sandy’s legacy and launch the bursary, the first fundraising event will be held at the Marsh Street Centre in Clarksburg on November 7. The evening will feature local musicians The Coachmen (Fletcher Family). Come on out and support the inaugural event of this bursary. This year’s recipient will be the ‘Marsh Street Rocks’ music program held at the Marsh Street Centre.
The Sandy Pedlar Bursary Fund celebrates Sandy’s lifelong belief that music connects us all—encouraging students to pick up their instruments, find their voice, and play together.
