Local Author Book Fair at the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library

Starting at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 24, the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library is hosting a two-day local author book fair with over 40 authors in attendance, the biggest local author event in the region. This free family event will take place on all levels of the library, and each author has a connection to either Grey or Bruce County. The fair runs from 1 – 4 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

The fair will showcase a wide range of genres and give the public a chance to get to know the authors, purchase their books, play our library Plinko game, and enter to win some great prizes. Show any library card for a chance to win a book bundle, and if you purchase a book from one of the authors you will be entered in a draw to win back the price of the book.

In May of 2006, former Chief Librarian Andrew Armitage wrote about the many local writers “whose books are coming off the press at an ever-accelerating rate. They are novelists, poets, travel writers, authors of young adult and children’s books, cookbook writers, contributors to magazines, compilers of local lore, makers of memoirs and guidebooks, essayists, railways buffs, and historians. All of them have one thing in common – they are your neighbours.”

The library understands the importance of highlighting authors in our community and currently has over 600 items in the ‘Local Author and Grey-Bruce Connection’ collection. The Library is delighted to host the first annual Local Author Book Fair and support writers in Grey/Bruce.
