The Meaford Public Library will host Lori Oschefski, founder of Home Children Canada, for an insightful presentation on the history of the British Home Children (BHC) migration programs on Saturday, September 20 at 10:30 a.m.
Oschefski is the founder and president of Home Children Canada, a leading organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of British Home Children. A passionate advocate, author, and speaker, she has spent over 17 years researching and raising awareness of Canada’s child migrant history. Her work has led to national recognition of Home Children through advocacy efforts, historical exhibits, and the publication of three books. Through presentations, media engagements, and community outreach, she continues to ensure that the voices of the British Home Children are heard and honoured.
Oschefski visit is timely, as September 28 is British Home Child Day. Her presentation will reveal the challenges these child migrants faced, the hardships of indentured service, and the resilience that led to their success. Learn about key resources for research and explore the vast contributions Home Children made to Canada’s development and war efforts. Through compelling stories and historical insights, this presentation sheds light on an overlooked chapter of Canadian history and honours the legacy of over 100,000 BHC who helped shape the nation.
